FAIRBANKS — The Nenana Ice Classic clock is ticking.
The clock that will determine the exact time the Tanana River ice in Nenana goes out was hooked up Friday night. Now it’s just a matter of time before we find out who the lucky winner or winners will be in Alaska’s richest and oldest guessing game.
Officials attached the wire that runs from a wooden tripod on the ice to a clock on shore late Friday night, manager Cherrie Forness said.
“We decided to go ahead and hook it up because we’re starting to see large cracks in the ice,” she said.
