FAIRBANKS — Participants in next month’s Salute To Our Military Parade are ready to move their feet. Some 5,000 military personnel are expected to march between Fort Wainwright and Pioneer Park on May 12.
Event organizers are hoping at least four times that many will line the streets and help paint the town red, white and blue. They’re also hoping for a larger footprint from the day’s celebrations.
STOMP, the acronym for the parade, came about by accident, but parade planning committee co-chairwoman Lisa Herbert hopes the catchy name will take off in other cities and that stomping your foot becomes a way to spontaneously thank service members when encountering them in public.
