Oil tax reform? Unlikely

Anchorage Daily Planet
By Staff

It is with more than a little sadness that we note the battle in the legislative special session over reforming Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share oil tax is going on and on and on.

It is no surprise, really, because the fight pits two entirely different views of government, two different philosophies against each other. On one hand, there are true believers; those who believe government is a provider - jobs for unions, programs for anybody and everybody, fat paychecks and benefits for its workers. This school of “milk ‘em” government takes not just what it needs from those it taxes - it takes what it can.
