JUNEAU -- A day after Gov. Sean Parnell abruptly yanked an oil tax bill from the Legislature's special session agenda, the Senate labeled the action "sudden, unprecedented and unauthorized" and, armed with a legal opinion from the Legislature's attorney, adjourned just as quickly.
The session imploded Thursday, its ninth day. Legislators never took a vote on the two major bills the governor called them into session to consider: his proposal to cut oil taxes, which he then withdrew after it ran into serious trouble, and a bill by House Speaker Mike Chenault to develop a natural gas pipeline. They did pass a sex trafficking crime bill.
