Wait on oil taxes until legislators get their brains back

Anchorage Daily Planet
By Tom Brennan

Given the Legislature’s inability to understand and deal with falling oil production, Alaska may just have to wait for tax reform until after the election, when politicians get their brains back.

There is good reason to be confused about the problem – as certainly some of our esteemed legislators are – since North Slope employment and investment levels are both high. And those are things we hope to see if both the independent oil companies and the majors operating the legacy fields are granted relief from the state’s production tax burden.
