Given the Legislature’s inability to understand and deal with falling oil
production, Alaska may just have to wait for tax reform until after the
election, when politicians get their brains back.
There is good reason to
be confused about the problem – as certainly some of our esteemed legislators
are – since North Slope employment and investment levels are both high. And
those are things we hope to see if both the independent oil companies and the
majors operating the legacy fields are granted relief from the state’s
production tax burden.
