A speech about nothing

Anchorage Daily Planet
Editorial

President Barack Obama’s unseemly political chest-thumping over the killing of Osama bin Laden is matched only by his crass 14,000-mile round-trip, at taxpayers’ expense, for a re-election speech in Afghanistan.

The speech, it should be noted, had no real substance about a document that really means nothing except that we promise to talk more later and - surprise! - American troops will be there until 2024. Sadly, it did nothing to change things on the ground - except to help stir up the Taliban, which promptly killed seven people with bombs in Kabul after the visit.

Bush said "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" on an aircraft carrier. I guess he had a
real right to brag about his accomplishment. Obama on the other hand is responsible for making the decision to go after Osama ben Laden against advice of his people. He shouldn't be allowed to mention it. He flew to Afganistan and was brave enough to put his ass out for any taliban or al queda to kill him.
