It was no real surprise that the Anchorage Assembly did the right thing and
certified the problem-plagued April 3 election. Its independent lawyer told
Assembly members they had no real choice.
After all, the Assembly was
facing a federal constitutional violation if it failed to certify the election -
and nobody had formally contested it, claiming corruption or fraud or reckless
conduct. Even that likely would not have been enough to block certification.
