Scrutiny deserved: Fairbanks should support analysis of F-16 transfer

It might be a good time to dig out your old red “America Needs Eielson” T-shirt from 2005. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Mark Begich are hosting a community meeting at the Carlson Center this weekend to discuss the Air Force’s planned transfer of Eielson’s F-16s to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.

The move would complete the gutting process the Department of Defense proposed seven years ago but was truncated by the independent Base Realignment and Closure Commission, which allowed only Eielson’s squadron of A-10 Warthog aircraft to be moved out.
