“A corporation is not a person,” according to a common rallying cry recently given voice in Alaska as a bill before the Legislature. No rational person could disagree with the statement. A corporation exists on paper; it has neither flesh nor blood.
“Corporations, therefore, have no free speech rights to influence elections,” comes the punch line. This is too simplistic, but many people have adopted it as gospel. Few seem to understand the danger of what they endorse.
