21st century America is continuing to follow a path laid out a century ago by people who didn’t understand what they were doing.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries scientific discovery, invention and engineering were all the rage, and with good reason. From developments in communication with the telegraph moving to the telephone and eventually radio; the internal combustion engine, the automobile and airplane, and of course, developments in building and construction that made ever larger buildings possible, as well as dams, railroads and highways. It seemed that there was nothing that could not be conquered by science.
