American Airlines plans to use iPads to reduce paper in its planes’ cockpits, looking to save over a million dollars in fuel each year -- thus reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and helping to Save the Planet.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the US agency that regulates and controls civil aviation, has already approved the use of the iPad to replace paper charts, because the device and the aviation mapping app developed by aviation chartmaker Jeppesen meet airline navigational safety requirements.
