Time to act: Legislature has a chance to help Alaska’s future

Editorial

Will this be the do-nothing Legislature when it comes to efforts at encouraging more oil production?

Alaskans had better hope not. But, so far at least, the label is firmly affixed. The Legislature, in its regular session, did not pass significant changes to the state’s oil tax system. Those changes are the best hope of making Alaska more competitive on the global oil scene and thereby getting more crude into the increasingly hollow trans-Alaska oil pipeline.
