Extend the film subsidy program

Anchorage Daily Planet
Editorial

The Legislature is considering whether to extend the Alaska film incentive program, which is supposed to sunset next year. We support the drive for a 10-year extension. Why? The program is good for Alaska.

Passed during the administration of Sarah Palin, the program - credited with increasing the number of movies and TV shows filmed in Alaska - offers tax credits to production companies, with the amount hinging on how much the companies spend in Alaska, their local hire efforts and the amount of shooting in rural Alaska.
