The Legislature is considering whether to extend the Alaska film incentive
program, which is supposed to sunset next year. We support the drive for a
10-year extension. Why? The program is good for Alaska.
Passed during the
administration of Sarah Palin, the program - credited with increasing the number
of movies and TV shows filmed in Alaska - offers tax credits to production
companies, with the amount hinging on how much the companies spend in Alaska,
their local hire efforts and the amount of shooting in rural Alaska.
